There are more than 60 points worth of options below. You can pick which ones you would like to complete. You will not be awarded more than 60 points for your work, even if you complete all parts of the assignment.

Short Answer: 10 points

Please answer in full sentences and in your own words. Do not just copy and paste from the lesson.

  • What are the classes of Henchmen?
  • What are the types of Henchmen?
  • Who is on the lowest rung of Henchmen in an organisation?
  • Where can you find the Henchmen?
  • What is characteristic for The Backstabber?

True or False: 10 points

If the statement is false, correct it.

  • Villains usually divide the henchmen by their looks.
  • If minions survive first few months on their job, they are promoted to lieutenants.
  • Seedy and dive bars are a perfect environment to finding your Henchmen.
  • There are two types of subcontractors.
  • The Black Widow is an unbalanced madperson that draws others into their crazy environment.

Form a Line: 10 points

You want to overview the numbers and general behavior of your henchmen, so you order them to form a line. Solve the skyscraper puzzle below to make your inspection.

A Skyscraper puzzle consists of a square grid with some exterior 'skyscraper' clues. Every square in the grid must be filled with a digit from 1 to 5 so that every row and column contains one of each digits, as in Sudoku.

Each digit placed in the grid can be visualised as a building of that many storeys. A '5' is a 5 story building and so on. Each number outside the grid reveals the number of 'buildings' that can be seen from that point, looking along the adjacent row or column. Every building blocks all buildings of a lower height from view, while taller buildings are still visible beyond it.

Lone Wolf or Team Player?: 10 points

As mentioned in the lesson, some villains prefer to not work with anyone, even Henchmen either due to lack of trust, lack of funds, social ineptitude or some other reason. What is your preference? There is no right or wrong answer, I am interested in hearing your arguments. 100 words or more.

Media Minions: 15 points

Pick a piece of media (movie, TV show, book, comic, video game, etc.) where a villain's minion was key to the story or had some other big impact on its course (whether positive or negative). Write a review of 150 words or more. Include a short synopsis, description of the minion or group of minions and how they impacted the story. Please take note that you must choose a piece of media that is HOL, or at least teen, appropriate.

Some media to consider (though you can pick something else): Disney's Hercules, Despicable Me, Minions, new Star Wars trilogy (2015-2019), Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Indiana Jones' Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Lord of the Rings, The Emperor's New Groove.

You Dropped This: 15 points

One of your minions pressed a button and jumbled your detailed plan given to you by your lieutenant. Solve the fallen letters puzzle below.

The Payment: 15 points

The lesson talked about where to find your Henchmen. That is all and fine, but after you find them, you need to convince them to join you as your minions. Make a speech or an argumentative essay where you will underline why they would want to join your organization and what benefits will they get if they do. You need to persuade them after all, not necessarily pay them at the end as elimination is always an option. 150 words minimum.

Recruitment Posters: 15 points

You decide not to employ any of the ideas of recruitment presented in the lesson. You figure, why not posters? They work for ordinary, legal jobs after all. Make a poster with which you will recruit your Henchmen. Through the use of any medium, illustrate the poster. It does not have to be particularly good (I know I am not a very talented artist), but it needs to be shown that an effort was put into your submission.

The Archetypes: 5-20 points

At the end of the lesson, I presented four villain archetypes to you. Your job is to find a villain in a piece of media that falls into one of these archetypes. Name them, the media from where he or she comes and why you think the villain fits this archetype. Your villain can be from any form of media (movie, TV show, book, comic, video game, etc.), as long as they are clearly defined as a villain and not an anti-hero, for example. If you did this option before, do not use the same villain as in previous assignments, whether they may fall into the archetype or not. You have to write 50 words or more on one villain to get full 5 points and you can do this four times for 20 points.
